Spirit Beasts
A spirit beast (灵兽) is a companion bound to you for good - it advances through the same realms you do, on its own XP pool, and serves you according to what kind of creature it is.
You may keep one bound beast at a time. Release it before binding another. It is summoned and dismissed at will, keeps its own vanilla AI while it is out, is pulled back to you whenever it strays further than Leash-Distance (24 blocks), and despawns on its own the moment you log out.
The system is enabled by default (Beasts-Enabled).
The Four Kinds
A species' kind is what makes collecting a second beast worth doing. A dismissed beast does nothing at all - the bonus is for keeping it at your side.
| Kind | What it does | Defaults |
|---|---|---|
| Guardian | Raises your outgoing damage, and fights beside you with its own AI. | Guardian-Damage-Percent-Base 4%, +0.6% per level. |
| Warden | Cuts your incoming damage. | Warden-Reduction-Percent-Base 5%, +0.7% per level, capped at 40%. |
| Gatherer | Multiplies your meditation Qi while summoned. | Gatherer-Qi-Multiplier-Base x1.15, +0.02 per level. |
| Familiar v0.10.0 | Never fights. Shares a passive Qi-gain aura with every nearby cultivator, not only its own owner. | Stationed instead of following - see below. |
Every figure is multiplied by the species' own Power, and again by Element-Resonance-Multiplier (1.25) when the beast's element matches your chosen dao.
Familiars are for a crowd, not a fight
A Familiar is the first beast kind built to help everyone standing near it rather than only its own owner. It can be stationed in place instead of made to follow you around, and while summoned and stationed it raises a passive Qi-gain aura that reaches any cultivator meditating nearby - your own sect hall or a public meditation ground is the natural place to leave one standing.
Taming
Use a Beast Taming Talisman on a wild creature from the roster whose health has fallen to Tame-Max-Health-Percent (30%) or less. Wound it first, then bind it.
Your chance is the species' own TameChance, plus:
Tame-Chance-Bonus-Per-Realm(+0.05) per realm you have reached, andTame-Chance-Element-Match-Bonus(+0.25) if the beast's element matches your chosen dao - a cultivator's dao calls to beasts of like nature, and they yield far more readily to it.
The result is capped at Tame-Chance-Max (0.95). With Tame-Consume-Talisman-On-Failure true (the default) a failed attempt still costs you the talisman, and the beast is left standing where it was.
Hatching
Spirit Beast Eggs drop from creature kills at Egg-Kill-Drop-Chance (1.5%). Use one to break it open and whatever sleeps inside bonds itself to you, chosen at random weighted by each species' EggWeight. A species with an egg weight of 0 never hatches and must be tamed in the wild. An egg respects MinRealm the same way taming does, and hatching while you already keep a beast is refused.
The Roster
MinRealm is a realm index — 0 is Body Refinement, 1 Qi Condensation, 2 Foundation Establishment, 3 Golden Core Formation, 4 Nascent Soul. The last three columns are all the beast's own realm, never yours.

A beast's element is its own nature and has nothing to do with its owner's — matching them is a bonus, not a requirement. Nothing about a species is hardcoded, so a server owner (or another mod) can add creatures to this list, give one an art, point it at an evolution, or make it rideable.
Raising It
A beast advances through the same realms and stages you do, on its own XP pool. Each stage costs Beast-Base-Xp-Requirement (120) x Beast-Xp-Growth-Rate (1.35) ^ level.
| Source | Default |
|---|---|
| Your kills | Beast-Xp-Per-Kill 12, multiplied by Beast-Xp-Own-Kill-Multiplier (2) when the beast landed the blow itself. |
| Feeding | Beast-Xp-Per-Qi-Item-Point 0.75 per point of Qi in what you feed it. |
| Your meditation | Meditation-Qi-Share-Percent 12% of the Qi you draw. |
The meditation share is a bonus by default - you still bank the full amount - unless Meditation-Share-Taken-From-Owner is set, which turns it into a genuine tithe deducted before your own Qi is credited.
Beast-Realm-Capped-By-Owner (true) means a beast can never out-rank its master: it stalls at your realm until you advance.
Feeding takes the item in your hand. Cores are worth exactly what you would have absorbed - 30, 80 and 220 for Spirit, Profound and Divine - a Spirit Stone is worth 40, and any of the four alchemy pills is worth 25. Anything else, a beast will not eat.
Beast Arts
A raised beast is not only a stat block that follows you. Since 0.7.2 it learns arts of its own — the companion-side counterpart of your techniques, with their own cooldowns and their own unlock realms.
| Art | Unlock Realm | Cooldown | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rending Claw (裂爪) | Body Refinement | 9s | A sweep at everything pressing in around the beast — radius 3.5, 4 damage + 0.6 per beast level, physical. The art nearly every Guardian starts with. |
| Ember Maw (焰口) | Qi Condensation | 14s | A breath of fire — radius 5, 6 damage + 0.8 per level, as Fire. Rare: only the Emberwulf and the Cave Rex ever learn it. |
| Stone Hide (石甲) | Foundation Establishment | 30s | Not a strike. 8 seconds of damage reduction laid over its master — 10% + 0.5 per level, capped at 35%. What a Warden is for. |
| Spirit Siphon (吸灵) | Qi Condensation | 45s | Not a strike. Pulls 8 Qi + 1.5 per level out of the air and hands it to its owner. The Gatherer’s art. |
| Beast Soul Howl (兽魂啸) | Golden Core Formation | 60s | The late roar any kind may learn: it mends its master for 12 + 1.2 per level. Only the four terminal forms reach it. |
Every magnitude above scales on the beast’s own level rather than its realm, so a long-raised companion of a modest species is not embarrassed by a freshly evolved one.
Two rules shape how these feel. An art belongs to a species, not to an individual — a Fox will never learn Ember Maw however long you raise it, and the roster above is the whole truth about which creature can learn what. And each art unlocks at the beast's own realm: you cannot lend your companion your cultivation, so a Nascent Soul master with a freshly tamed wolf has a wolf that knows one art.
Your beast uses them on its own when a fight starts within about a dozen blocks of it, choosing whatever is off cooldown and useful. You can also call one deliberately with /cultivation beast art {name}. Both halves are switchable independently — Beast-Arts-Autonomous and Beast-Arts-Owner-Commanded — so a server that wants companions to be purely reactive, or purely commanded, can have either.
Evolution
Half the roster is not a destination. Twelve of the 24 species grow into another, and the chains run several links deep:
- Wolf_White → Leopard_Snow → Tiger_Sabertooth — the longest Guardian line, ending in a mount.
- Wolf_Black → Emberwulf — Void into Fire, and the only common route to Ember Maw.
- Hyena → Fen_Stalker, and Raptor_Cave → Rex_Cave.
- Armadillo → Tortoise, and Bear_Grizzly → Bear_Polar → Yeti — the Warden line, rideable from the middle link onward.
- Toad_Rhino → Toad_Rhino_Magma.
- Cactee → Snapdragon → Trillodon, and Fox → Spark_Living — the two Gatherer lines.
Evolving is deliberate, not automatic: run /cultivation beast evolve once the beast has reached the target form's realm. It carries its levels, its XP and its bond across, and takes on the new form's element, power and arts. Nothing is re-rolled and nothing is lost — a black wolf that becomes an Emberwulf is the same companion, and it keeps its name.
Note that an evolution frequently changes the beast's element: Wolf_Black is Void and Emberwulf is Fire, Hyena is Poison and Fen_Stalker is Water. If you were matching your companion's element to your own Dao, that is worth knowing before you press it. If the beast cannot evolve yet, the command tells you exactly what is still missing rather than simply refusing.
Mounts
Eight species grow large enough to carry a rider — Tiger_Sabertooth, Rex_Cave, Bear_Grizzly, Bear_Polar, Yeti, Moose_Bull, Trillodon and, since 0.8.0, the Vulture. Raise one to the realm listed in the roster and /cultivation beast mount puts you on its back.
Only Moose_Bull is rideable early, at realm 2; everything else asks for realm 3 or 4, and four of them are terminal evolution forms rather than creatures you can tame directly. Riding one is therefore something you arrive at by raising a companion for a long time, not something you buy.
A mount is the second flight-free way to cross ground, alongside Sword Flying — and unlike the sword it costs no Qi at all to keep going. Both are ordinary right-click-to-mount interactions.
Flying mounts
New in 0.8.0: a species marked Flying grants its rider real, player-controlled flight the moment they climb on. It is a genuine alternative to Sword Flying, not a faster walk.
| Sword Flying | A flying mount | |
|---|---|---|
| Qi cost | 6/second while airborne | none — the beast carries you, not your cultivation |
| Scales with your realm | yes, speed and drain both | no — the beast's own speed is the speed |
| Needs | the art, at Golden Core Formation | a flight-capable beast raised to its mount realm |
The Vulture is the roster's one flying mount by default: a Wind-element Gatherer, tameable at realm 2, flight-capable at realm 4 (speed 8 horizontal, 6 vertical). Tameable well before it can carry you — the same "raise it up to that point" shape every other mount has.
It is a real vanilla wild role — a passive, fleeing bird like Fox or Deer_Stag rather than a fighter — so it tames exactly the way those do.
Flying needs Mountable and a matching mount NPC role to exist (MountRoleId, defaulting to Cultivation_Mount_<RoleId>), since the rideable body is a separate role carrying the interact-to-mount interaction. A plain creature role has none to borrow. Beast-Mount-Flying-Enabled is the master switch for the whole feature.
Breeding
Two bonded beasts can start a family, but the ritual needs two cultivators, not one working alone. Place a Beast Pen Flag the way you would a Formation or Pill Cauldron flag — one flag plants (or moves) your personal pen — then both of you bring your summoned beasts and stand within reach of it.
/cultivation beast breed offer <player> proposes it; the other cultivator answers with accept or decline, and either side can cancel once it's running. Run the command bare to see how the current ritual is progressing.
| Value | |
|---|---|
| Ritual length | Breeding-Ritual-Duration-Seconds — 30 seconds |
| Qi drain | Breeding-Qi-Drain-Per-Second — 3/second, drawn from both of you independently |
| Qi floor to start | Breeding-Minimum-Qi-To-Start — 90, checked for both before it begins |
| Shared-pen radius | Breeding-Pen-Radius-Blocks — 6 blocks; either party's pen works, as long as you're both standing inside it |
Leaving the radius, or either of you running dry, ends the ritual for both — exactly like an interrupted alchemy refine, the Qi already spent is not returned.
A successful ritual doesn't hand you a beast outright — it hands whoever sent the offer an egg. Incubation is random, between 4 and 12 hours (Incubation-Hours-Min / -Max), and entirely offline-safe: the hatch time is stamped onto the egg itself the moment it's laid, so there's no server tick to babysit and no penalty for logging off before it's ready.
What hatches leans toward its parents rather than rolling blind — species and element both favor whichever parent's nature wins out — and it can carry a descriptive trait noting which parent it takes after, or that it inherited a blend of both (hybrid vigor). Quality itself rolls 0.4–0.8 at the base (Quality-Roll-Min / -Max), plus Quality-Bonus-Per-Realm (+0.03) per average parent realm ordinal — so breeding with a higher-realm partner's beast skews the roll upward. That quality feeds a one-time starting XP gift for the hatchling, doubled again on a hybrid-vigor result.

Beast Expeditions
Send your bonded beast out on its own — away from you the entire time it's gone, unavailable to summon, mount or feed until it returns or you claim what it brought back.
| Expedition | Length | Brings back | Beast XP |
|---|---|---|---|
| Forage the Misty Vale | 2 hours | Spirit Herbs | 18 |
| Hunt the Ridge | 4 hours | Cores — Spirit, upgrading to Profound and then Divine as the beast's own level rises | 45 |
| Delve the Old Cavern | 8 hours | Spirit Stones, plus a chance at a technique manual | 90 |
Both figures above are the base, per Expedition-Reward-Level-Scale; the actual haul and XP scale up with the beast's level. Rewards are locked in the moment you send the beast, scaled off its level right then — not re-rolled when you claim, so leveling it up mid-expedition doesn't retroactively sweeten a haul that's already in flight.
Unlike some other reward systems in the mod, an expedition's haul is never discarded for lack of space — whatever doesn't fit stays claimable until you make room for it.
