The Path/REVERSE·道

Cultivation: REVERSE

Everyone else climbs. A Reverse cultivator walks the other road — Mortal Backsliding (逆). Every kill, every hoard and every duel won leaves a stain called taint, and enough taint burns your banked Qi and then drags you back down the ladder. What lifts you is what the orthodox path throws away: meditating with nothing to your name, giving your belongings to strangers, and losing on purpose.

REVERSE is a paid add-on for Cultivation, available with a Cultivation subscription or bought outright; Cultivation itself is free and always will be.

One profile, not a server mode

Nothing changes for anyone until they ask. /reverse begin creates a brand-new cultivation profile in one of your own profile slots and switches you to it. That profile is Reverse for good — there is no way back to ordinary progression on it short of deleting it. Every other profile you own, and every other player on the server, plays Cultivation exactly as before.

REVERSE installs no replacement ladder. It steers Cultivation's own realms and Qi through the public event API, so a Reverse cultivator still advances, still breaks through, still holds titles and still stands on the same leaderboards. You may keep several Reverse profiles at once.

It refuses to begin when all your profile slots are full, when another mod's progression system already governs the slot (SoulRings, for one), or when something blocks profile creation. The test-profile sandbox is never Reverse.

How you fall

Four things stain a Reverse cultivator, and each is a number in the config.

SourceWhat it costs
KillingEvery kill, of anything, adds Taint-Per-Kill-Base × the victim's max health ÷ 100. A victim who struck you in the last 8 seconds counts as self-defense and costs only 35% of that. NPC roles listed in Taint-Exempt-Roles cost nothing.
Winning against a playerA duel win or a player kill adds a flat 150 taint and a stack of Bloodstained Hands. Repeating it on the same victim within 5 minutes adds neither, though the kill still restarts the window.
HoardingYour wealth is priced every 60 seconds. Over the threshold (256) it adds 0.5 × (wealth ÷ threshold − 1) taint, at most 5 per audit.
Meditating richMeditating while over the poverty threshold earns nothing and adds 0.05 taint per tick.

Wealth is your hotbar and storage priced against the item table in the config, plus your open Auction House listings (at their asking price in Spirit Stones) and any parcels you have not yet claimed. An item that is not in the table is worth nothing — by default only Spirit Stones (1), Spirit Cores (8), Profound Cores (40), Divine Cores (200) and Spirit Beast Eggs (60) count.

Taint also drains by itself, 4 per hour of real time.

What taint does

Taint is settled the moment it is added. It burns your banked Qi first, one for one. When no Qi is left, each further rung of taint is a backslide: the same step a failed ritual costs, one stage down with the banked Qi gone, priced at whatever Qi the rung ahead of you needs — so a deep backslide costs more taint than a shallow one.

What a backslide cannot take

Cultivation's demotion step never crosses a realm boundary. In this build a backslide moves you down one stage at a time and stops at the first stage of the realm you stand in; at that stage it only scatters whatever Qi you had banked. The mercy floor described below sits one realm under your best, but because a backslide cannot cross a realm boundary, in practice it is only reached at the very bottom of the ladder.

The mercy floor is one realm (four levels) under the best level you have ever held. A cultivator pinned at the floor is Dust-Bound: it can sink no further, and meditation merit is halved (Dust-Bound-Meditation-Multiplier) until they climb clear of it. A message tells you when you reach the floor and when you rise off it.

Bloodstained Hands

Each duel win or player kill adds one stack of Bloodstained Hands (up to five) and extends a shared timer by 30 minutes, to a ceiling of 4 hours. While it runs, every stack cuts your gains and sharpens your trials. The effect scales from the one-stack figure to the five-stack figure:

EffectOne stackFive stacks
Qi gain×0.85×0.25
Damage dealt×0.97×0.85
Damage taken×1.02×1.10
Ritual difficulty×1.05×1.25

How you rise

Every ordinary Qi source is closed to a Reverse profile: Cultivation's own Qi-gain event is cancelled for it by default, after every multiplier. Exactly three things reopen the tap.

Poverty meditation

This is the main faucet. Meditate while your priced wealth is at or under Poverty-Threshold and Qi flows, scaled from a quarter share at the rich end up to one-and-a-half times when destitute. Standing with a completely empty hotbar and storage doubles it again (the vow). Meditate while rich and you earn nothing and add a little taint instead. Wealth is re-priced on the 60-second audit, so a change takes up to a minute to show.

Alms

/reverse alms <player> hands the whole stack in your active hotbar slot to another online player, who must have been online for at least 10 minutes. You earn merit — Qi — equal to the stack's table value × 2, multiplied by how many different people you gave to in the last 24 hours ÷ 3 (capped at 1), so one friend is worth a third of three strangers. Several guards keep it honest:

Deliberate defeat

Lose a duel by dying to your opponent's blows, or yield one with /reverse concede, and you earn merit: 60 × a level-gap factor (0.4 to 2.0, rising 0.08 per level your opponent is above you) × how many different opponents beat you in the last 24 hours ÷ 3 (capped at 1). It is capped at 1.5 times the Qi your next rung needs per rolling 24 hours, and the same opponent pays out once an hour. The gap is only read when your opponent shares your world; otherwise it counts as neutral.

Conceding is never free: it also burns a quarter of your banked Qi. And a death only counts when your opponent genuinely struck you in the last few seconds — dying to a fall mid-duel earns nothing, and cannot be used to tax a Reverse opponent either.

What is closed

REVERSE shuts the other doors Cultivation offers, so none of them can be milked for Qi:

Seeing where you stand

/reverse ledger prints your taint, banked Qi, Bloodstained Hands (stacks and minutes left), best level held, backslide count, Dust-Bound status and how much of today's alms and defeat-merit caps you have used. The same facts appear as rows in the Constitution section of the Overview page — Bloodstained Hands, Taint and Dust-Bound — and a Reverse Ledger row on the Players tab of /cultivation admin lets staff Inspect a player's ledger or Reset it (taint, Bloodstained Hands and Dust-Bound; lifetime stats are kept).

Commands

Commands
CommandWhoWhat
/reverseanyonePrints the usage.
/reverse beginanyoneBegins a new Reverse profile in a free slot and switches to it.
/reverse begin <name>anyoneThe same, naming the profile.
/reverse alms <player>Reverse profileGives the stack in your hand to an online player as alms.
/reverse concedeReverse profileYields your current duel as a deliberate loss.
/reverse ledgerReverse profileReports your taint, Bloodstained Hands and daily caps.

Every /reverse command uses the reverse permission node, granted to everyone by default. The Players-tab ledger row follows Cultivation's own admin permission, cultivation.admin.

For server owners

Every number lives in one file, mods/Siren_CultivationREVERSE/Config.json. Keys not in the file take their default, and the file carries its own Description-* documentation.

Getting it

REVERSE is available in the Pavilion — included with a Cultivation subscription, or bought once. Owning it also earns the cosmetic Reverse Walker title on any server running Cultivation.

It is server-side only: drop the jar beside Cultivation and restart, and your players install nothing. The current build is v0.2.0. It requires Cultivation 0.11.0 or newer and a Hytale Update 7 server (Server API 0.7.0-pre.5.1), and will not load on an Update 6 server; the previous version is the one to keep there. Release 0.2.0 fixed /reverse concede paying out a duel that had not actually ended.

Like Cultivation's other add-ons it checks in with xianxia.dev for new releases, official-build digests and the published compatibility list. Nothing about your server is sent.
