Cultivation: Tribulation Karaoke

Heaven's Questioning (天问). The lightning no longer merely strikes a cultivator — starting from the second bolt of a ritual, the Heavens question them. A line appears above your head and in chat, a pointed question about your resolve, and you must type the response back before the title fades.

Tribulation Karaoke is a paid add-on for Cultivation, available with a Cultivation subscription or bought outright; Cultivation itself is free and always will be.

How a verse works

Starting from the second strike of a tribulation ritual, every Nth strike calls a verse — every second one by default. Not every strike does: the add-on does not bury the ritual in prompts.

  1. The Heavens ask. The question shows as a title above your head and in chat, along with the line to speak back and the seconds you have.
  2. You type the response in chat. Exactly, or close enough — case, spacing and punctuation are ignored, and a near-miss typo is forgiven within reason. You get three tries per verse.
  3. Answer in time and you are told your streak. Fail to, and the Heavens rebuke you.

Anything you type that is nowhere near an answer — brb, a smiley — is left alone. It does not count as a try, and it is not swallowed. A line starting with / is always a command and always goes through, so you can reach any command mid-tribulation. While a verse is open, your attempts are kept out of public chat, so six copies of the same couplet do not fill it and nobody can answer another cultivator's question for them.

What a miss costs

The lightning itself is untouched: a bolt deals exactly what Cultivation says it deals, whether you answer or not. A miss adds a rebuke on top of it, and rolls for an injury.

What a perfect ritual earns

Answer every verse the Heavens called during one ritual, and when the ritual genuinely concludes you gain 1.0 point of Heavenly Dao. A ritual you cancel yourself does not pay it out, and neither does one you merely abandon.

Who is watching

Players within 32 blocks see who is being questioned, who answered, and who fumbled, so a tribulation stays the public spectacle it already was.

The verses

Twenty-six are built in. Which one is drawn depends on the lightning's tier (white, blue or gold) and on your chosen Dao, with a bias toward verses written for your Dao and your tier. A verse is never repeated until four others have been shown, unless the pool is that small.

Every verse is written in all five of Cultivation's languages, and the answer you must type is in your own.

Your record, titles and the Codex

Your tally — verses called, answered, missed, best streak and perfect rituals — is saved with you across sessions. It unlocks two cosmetic titles:

TitleHow to earn it
Voice That Answers Heaven · 答天者Carry three tribulation rituals through without missing a single verse.
Ten Thousand Verses · 萬言Answer 100 verses across every tribulation you survive.

The Codex gets an article, Heaven's Questioning, that states your server's actual numbers, read live from the config rather than written down.

Commands

Tribulation Karaoke adds no commands. It listens to Cultivation's tribulation strikes and to chat.

For server owners

Seventeen settings, in mods/Siren_CultivationTribulationKaraoke/Config.json. All of them are in the in-game admin config editor — a general section (also on Cultivation's settings menu) and a judgment section (admin page only) — and apply live. The file carries its own Description-Karaoke documentation.

Getting it

Tribulation Karaoke is available in the Pavilion — included with a Cultivation subscription, or bought once. It is server-side only: drop the jar beside Cultivation and restart, and your players install nothing.

The current build is v0.2.0. It requires Cultivation 0.11.0 or newer and a Hytale Update 7 server (Server API 0.7.0-pre.5.1), and will not load on an Update 6 server; the previous version is the one to keep there. Release 0.2.0 moved the answered, missed and perfect-ritual screen titles to Update 7's supported title calls; they look the same. If a pairing with Cultivation is later published as incompatible, the add-on stops hijacking strikes — and only that — without taking the server down.
