Wandering Rival Cultivators

A cultivator you have never met, wandering peacefully somewhere between 6 and 20 chunks from wherever you stand, on any world with at least one player online.

v0.10.0 Right-click one and a real menu opens, rather than an instant duel:

OptionDoes
SparThe original challenge — a real 1v1 duel, fought with the same native combat any hostile creature uses, not technique keybinds
Up to three offersRolled fresh per encounter: a Barter, a Manual, or a piece of Insight — purchases, not fights
LeaveWalk away; the rival stays put for anyone else

Winning a Spar takes a flat 150 Qi, plus independent chances at more: 8% for a technique manual, 35% for a forging material. Losing costs nothing at all — no Qi, no item, no cooldown. The encounter simply ends, and the rival, if it is still standing, can be challenged by anyone else.

A rival that goes unchallenged for 30 minutes wanders off on its own, and no more than two exist in the same world at once, so a quiet server never feels crowded with them.

Nemesis Escalation

v0.10.0 Lose a Spar for the first time and the mod names your Nemesis — one of ten flavored rivals, drawn once and remembered from then on. From that point, roughly 1 in 3 later rival encounters are that same Nemesis returning, rather than a stranger.

Beat your Nemesis three times and they retire for good. Lose to them again instead, and they climb — up to five tiers, each raising their health and their reward. A cultivator who never loses to a rival never triggers any of this; it exists entirely for the ones who do.

/cultivation rival nemesis reports your current Nemesis, if you have one: their name, tier, and your record against them.
