Master & Disciple
A Master-Disciple bond (師徒) is the mod's answer to the oldest relationship in the genre: a cultivator far enough along the road formally takes on somebody who is not, and both of them are better for it.
It is offered and accepted, never imposed. Nothing binds until the prospective disciple says yes.
Forming the bond
The master sends the offer; the disciple accepts it.
/cultivation masterdisciple offer <player>
/cultivation masterdisciple accept <player>
| Rule | Value | Key |
|---|---|---|
| Realm gap | the master must lead by 2 realms | Bond-Min-Realm-Gap |
| Disciples per master | at most 3 | Bond-Max-Disciples-Per-Master |
| Masters per disciple | exactly one — always | — |
| Offer expiry | 120s | Bond-Offer-Expiry-Seconds |
| After dissolving | 1 hour before either may bond again | Bond-Dissolve-Cooldown-Hours |
Both cultivators must be online, and a few things are refused outright: bonding with yourself, taking your own master on as your disciple (the cycle check), a target who already has a master, and a target who is already your disciple.
What the bond does
Meditating together
While master and disciple are both meditating, within 8 blocks of each other in the same world, each draws 1.15× as much Qi — and the bonus multiplies with every other source rather than replacing any of them, exactly as Partnered Cultivation does.
It lifts both of you. The master is not doing charity work; sitting with a disciple is a genuinely better use of the master's own hour.
| Value | Key | |
|---|---|---|
| Proximity | 8 blocks, same world | Bond-Radius-Blocks |
| Qi multiplier | ×1.15 to both | Bond-Qi-Multiplier |
Teaching an art
/cultivation masterdisciple teach <disciple> <technique>
A master may hand a technique they know directly to their disciple, once every 24 hours per bond (Bond-Teach-Cooldown-Hours). This is a real unlock — it goes through the same grant path every other route to an art uses, so a taught art is learned, not borrowed, and it does not evaporate the way a sect hall inscription does.
Three refusals, and they are all the obvious ones:
- The master does not know the art themselves.
- The disciple already knows it.
- The disciple has not yet grown into it — the realm, Dao and bloodline requirements still apply. Teaching skips the finding, not the qualifying.
This makes a master the fifth route to an art, beside manuals, enlightenment, breakthrough and sect inscription. See Unlocking an art.
The disciple's breakthrough pays the master
When a disciple breaks through to a new realm, their master is credited 15 Qi scaled by the new realm (Bond-Breakthrough-Qi-Reward-Base) — and, with Bond-Breakthrough-Sect-Contribution-Enabled, shared progression toward the master's own sect.
The person who got them there is paid for it. A master who takes on three disciples and actually teaches them is running a genuinely rewarding operation.
Ending it
/cultivation masterdisciple dissolve <player>
Either side may end the bond, and the other is told. Doing so bars both of them from forming a new bond for one hour — enough that a bond is a commitment rather than a buff to be re-shopped every time somebody better logs in.
A master or a disciple counts as a bonded companion for curing Qi Deviation: meditating beside them burns the affliction away three times as fast. A spouse via Partnered Cultivation counts too. Composure is easier to recover in company.
