Talismans
Talismans (符箓) are a crafting track that sits beside Alchemy rather than inside it: same shape - a personal station, a timed ritual, a graded consumable at the end - built around paper and ink instead of herbs and flame.
Plant a Talisman Desk Flag to set down your personal desk, and inscribe one of six consumable talismans there. Each is single-use, and each does something a pill cannot: recall your flying sword, throw up a barrier, plant a temporary array, or slip away from something hunting you.
The loop
Inscribe, roll, climb - the same shape as the Pill Cauldron, with one thing Alchemy doesn't have: affinity.
The Talisman Desk
Stand within the desk's 4-block interaction radius to begin. Everything runs through one command:
/cultivation talisman
Aliases talismans and fu. The bare command reports your mastery, where your desk is, and whether a ritual is currently running.
| Subcommand | Does |
|---|---|
list | Every talisman you can inscribe |
inscribe <talisman> [element] | Begin an inscription ritual |
cancel | Stop early - the papers already spent stay spent |
The six talismans
| Talisman | What it does |
|---|---|
| Explosive | A thrown charge that detonates. |
| Flying-Sword-Recall | Calls a Sword Flying blade back to its wielder. |
| Barrier | Throws up a defensive ward. |
| Formation Flag | Plants a temporary array on the spot - distinct from a permanent Formation, which is built to last. |
| Breath-Concealing | Breaks a hostile NPC's target lock. |
| Concealing | Makes other players lose track of you. |
A Concealing talisman doesn't turn you invisible - it makes other players lose track of you specifically. A player with entity markers switched on still sees exactly where you are. It defeats tracking, not detection.
Inscribing
/cultivation talisman inscribe <talisman> [element]
| Value | |
|---|---|
| Papers consumed | 3 Cultivation_TalismanPaper, taken immediately |
| Ritual length | 60 seconds |
| Qi drain | 2 per second, the whole time |
| Qi floor to start | 20 |
| Desk interaction radius | 4 blocks |
The papers are spent the moment the ritual starts - cancelling or getting interrupted does not refund them, exactly the way a Pill Cauldron spends its herbs up front. Beginning an inscription is already the decision.
Failing, and botching
A completed ritual rolls against a failure chance that starts at 35% and falls as low as 5% for a cultivator at max mastery. Grinding out a desk full of failures is the price of being new at this.
Of every failure - not of every attempt - 30% botches the ritual outright. A botch costs 12% of maximum health through the ordinary damage pipeline, the same path tribulation lightning takes, and it is non-lethal by default. A plain failure, with no botch, only wastes the papers.
Grade and elemental affinity
Every talisman that comes off the desk is rolled a grade - Low, Mid, High, or Perfect - from two things weighted evenly:
| Half of the roll | Weight |
|---|---|
| The mastery-ladder fraction | 50% |
| Elemental affinity | 50% |
Affinity is unique to talismans - Alchemy's grade roll has no equivalent term. Every cultivator carries a hidden strongest-affinity element, the same one the Dao system tracks and drifts over time, and inscribing a talisman in that element always scores affinity at a perfect 1.0. Inscribing outside your strongest element scores lower. Reading your own affinity before you commit three papers to a roll is worth the trip to your Dao page.
Grade always buys charges: 1 / 2 / 3 / 5 for Low through Perfect. What the extra grade buys beyond that depends on the talisman:
| Grade | Charges | Potency (the four fire-and-forget talismans) | Duration (Breath-Concealing, Concealing - base 30s) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Low | 1 | ×1.0 | 30s |
| Mid | 2 | ×1.2 | 36s |
| High | 3 | ×1.5 | 45s |
| Perfect | 5 | ×2.0 | 60s |
Explosive, Flying-Sword-Recall, Barrier and Formation Flag scale by potency. Breath-Concealing and Concealing instead scale the base 30-second window by that same multiplier.
Talisman mastery
符箓境界 is its own 50-level ladder, climbed only by inscribing at the desk - entirely separate from your Qi realm and from alchemy mastery. A Body Refinement cultivator can be the server's best talisman-maker, and a Nascent Soul cultivator can still be inscribing Low-grade Explosive talismans if they never practice.
Mastery feeds back into both halves of the craft: it raises the mastery-weight half of the grade roll, and it is what pushes the failure chance down toward its 5% floor.
