The Path/Qi Deviation·

Qi Deviation

Qi Deviation (走火入魔) is what losing your composure leaves behind.

Before v0.8.0, breaking under a Heart-Devil Trial ended the ritual and demoted you, and that was the end of it. It now also stays with you — for fifteen minutes afterward your meditation yields a third less, and the next inner demon presses half again as hard. An unstable cultivator inviting more instability.

Not the same thing as a Meridian Injury

Qi Deviation is one timer, caused by one thing, that cures itself. Meridian Injuries are up to six independent, longer-lived afflictions from a wider set of causes — a broken tribulation bolt among them — each needing its own cure or a real ritual, the Marrow-Cleansing Rite, to remove early.

Catching it

There is exactly one source: a Heart-Devil Trial that drains your composure to zero. That is still the same failure it always was — the ritual ends and you drop a sub-stage — and the affliction is layered on top of it.

A cultivator who never leans far enough into Yin or Yang to face the trial at all can never suffer Qi Deviation. Pulling your Yin-Yang balance back toward the middle is the only true prevention.

What it costs

The second line is the dangerous one. A deviated cultivator who immediately sits back down for another attempt faces an inner demon that drains composure half again as fast — which is very likely to break them again, and reset the fifteen minutes. The intended move is to stop and deal with it, not to push through.

Curing it

Three ways out, and none of them is helpless.

Waiting, a pill, or company

Wait

The clock runs down on its own — including while you are logged off. Logging out with fifteen minutes of Qi Deviation and coming back tomorrow means it is gone. It is never a reason to be unable to play.

A Clear-Mind Pill

Cultivation_ClearMindPill — the same pill that shields a pulse of the Heart-Devil Trial also cures the affliction the trial leaves behind. Since v0.8.0 these come out of a Pill Cauldron rather than a workbench, so a cultivator on the Heart-Devil track has a standing reason to keep an alchemist close.

Meditate beside someone bonded to you

Meditating alongside a bonded companion burns the remaining time down three times as fast (Deviation-Companion-Cure-Multiplier). Two bonds count:

The proximity requirement is that bond's own radius, not a separate one — 8 blocks for a Master-Disciple bond, whatever PartnerConfig.json sets for a marriage. Composure is easier to recover in company, which is the whole point of the mechanic.

Checking where you stand

/cultivation deviation reports whether you are afflicted and how long is left. While it runs, the affliction also reminds you in chat once a minute — the notice is there so a sudden drop in meditation yield is never a mystery.

Tuning

Everything above lives in QiDeviationConfig.json, with Deviation-Enabled as the master switch. Turning it off leaves the Heart-Devil Trial's original failure — the demotion — exactly as it was in v0.7.4. The trial itself is tuned separately, in BreakthroughConfig.json's HeartDevil-* fields; see Tribulations.

JSON only, for now

Qi Deviation is not in the /cultivation admin in-game editor yet — only Web Store and Ascension were wired in for v0.8.0. Edit QiDeviationConfig.json directly. See Configuration.
